Dorota Roszkowska

She studied artistic textiles at the Fine Arts Lyceum in Supraśl, graduating in 1990. In 1991 she took a course in silk painting in Meaux, France, and in 1997 she graduated in graphic design from the art academy in Arnhem, now ArtEZ.

While still studying she started Studio Roszkowska, which later became doroART. For the first years she worked as a graphic designer; painting gradually took the lead. That background is still visible in the clear, graphic composition.

Her work moves between figurative, abstract and symbolic. Recurring sources are people and moments from life, femininity, poetry, nature, the earth and the planets. She works in series, mostly in acrylic, mixed media and gold-coloured metal leaf.

Beside the Planets series, which became the best known, she works on Human Natures and on Icons of Arnhem, in which recognisable buildings and places of the city return. Those are kept in the blue of Delft blue.

In 2018 her sound-absorbing paintings had their debut at the Innovate fair in Arnhem. Art with a function, without that function being visible.

Her work is held in private and corporate collections in the Netherlands and Poland. In 2014 she started the doroART rental collection, made up entirely of her own paintings.

In 2018 she was nominated for Pole of the Year in the Netherlands (Polonus), in the art and culture category.

She shares the practice readily, and connects people and talents from both cultures:

• 2025 - initiator and co-organiser of Polska Pasja, Flower Art Museum, Aalsmeer
• 2024 - curator and organiser of Cosmos, the former town hall in Tegelen
• 2022 - co-organiser of an art auction for Ukraine at the Eusebius church in Arnhem, with Rosemin Hendriks, Maria Roosen and Klaas Gubbels among others
• 2022 - took part in the art auction for Ukraine held by De Feltz Advocaten in The Hague, under the auspices of the Polish and Ukrainian embassies
• 2022 - volunteer drawing workshops at a primary school in Obrubniki, Podlasie
• 2016 - illustrations for the legend ‘Zaczarowane krakowskie gołębie’ in a bilingual edition of Polish legends
• 2008 to 2015 - ‘paint your own Tree of Life’ workshops for individuals and companies

‘What fascinates me is how art works on a space and on its energy, and what it does to people. Every time it astonishes me when a painting that already existed looks as though it were made for that one room. It gives me energy when a work makes people happy.’

Painting, she says, offers unlimited ways to express emotion through light, shadow, colour, symbol and metaphor. It is a continuous search for new forms and techniques.
