Sound-absorbing paintings

Functional art.

Glass, concrete, plaster and poured floors send sound straight back. You hear it as reverberation: the room sounds hollow and conversation takes effort. Behind a sound-permeable painted surface sits roughly four centimetres of absorbing material, taking in part of that sound instead of returning it. Not a technical panel on the wall, but a painting.

The city in blue and white: the Eusebius, the John Frost bridge, the Rembrandt Theatre. Drawn on a sound-absorbing surface, so they do the same thing in a room as the planets do.
